Business Grant: Our experience

We chanced upon 2 articles  in the Straits Times Forum today  on the painful process while applying for the Enterprise Singapore Business Grant. While we are really grateful for the assistance provided by our Government to help SMEs digitize their business so to stay relevant and survive  during these trying times , we do empathize with the writers' experiences. We had decided to apply for an Enterprise Singapore Business Grant last year to upgrade our ordering system and integrate this with our inventory system. This will enable us to enhance customer ordering experience and increase productivity within our company. We applied for the grant and was informed that we could initiate the project pending grant approval. And so we did. The grant was finally approved... one month AFTER our project went live. Grant money came 2 months later. In perspective, the whole project took about 6 months to complete. The longer approval process may be due to various reasons: the increased number o

Our soft spot for kids

We love creating cakes for kids. There is something about the sparkle in their eyes and the smile on their faces when they see our cakes that make the efforts all worthwhile.  This is also the reason why our CSR initiatives are channeled towards kids. We have been partnering with Make-A-Wish Singapore for many years now to grant cake wishes to children with terminal diseases. And no effort is spared by our chefs to come up with cake designs that will help brighten the child’s day. For these kids,  each birthday is a testament of their will to stand up to adversity.  We also support the likes of Singapore Children’s Society and TOUCH Community Services to better the lives of children under their care.  To commemorate our 21 st  Anniversary this year, we  have chosen to sponsor two children under TOUCH Community Services' "Children in Need" programme.  It is our hope that the small part we play in supporting these causes will help provide a better and more secure future for

Of Reasonableness

“How often do you have to deal with unreasonable customer like this?” A friend of ours asked, after witnessing an episode while collecting his cake at the shop last weekend. A customer had insisted that she be allowed to cut the queue of 5 people ahead of her because she was late in picking up her child. Despite being reassured that we would try to move the line as quickly as possible, she still made a huge fuss (true story, verifiable if needed). To be fair, such customer is still the exception rather than norm. For this, we feel extremely lucky and blessed. However, we also realized that there have been increasingly more of such unpleasant situation during the course of this Covid-19 pandemic. Due to stricter social distancing rule, we can only allow one set of maximum 2 customers inside the shop at any one time. The rest will have to wait for their turns outside the shop. While we appreciate the rationale of such rule and the importance to abide by it, this does result in the wa

Repost: 21st Anniversary Letter

We posted below on our Facebook page on 28 May. But after our prior (bad) experience with the discontinuation of Facebook Notes (where all our prior years' anniversary letters were penned and which subsequently disappeared), we are reposting this here as a safeguard and also for those who may have missed reading it the first time around.....   The Patissier turns 21 in 5 days’ time (2nd June). Our anniversary is typically a very special day not just for us but also to our customers. However, celebration this year will be muted given the resurgence of the Covid-19 virus. We have decided to do away with our annual “1-Day-Only where customers get the absolute best discount on all our cakes” event so as to avoid crowding. We will definitely miss the buzz at the shop, which we have grown accustomed to, this coming anniversary day. And many of our customers too will probably be a tad disappointed with the event cancellation. But under current circumstance, it is the responsible thi

Our Blog is back!

Customers who have been with us long enough may recall that we used to run a Blog back in the days when we were not as active on social media. With the increase in adoption of Facebook/Instagram coupled with certain compatibility issues associated with the previous version of our Blog, we had decided to stopped blogging some years ago. But the time has come for us to revisit this after the discontinuation of Facebook Notes in October of last year. The Patissier's Chronicle serves as an extension to our communication in Facebook/Instagram. It will contain articles/messages (usually lengthier) that we wish to share with our existing/potential customers. So do check our Blog out!
